A product company in the middle of the country that would rather show you the test data than the marketing.
The company
The Body Shelf™ is a brand of Flipo Group, a consumer product company whose catalogue runs across home and patio accents, personal and pet safety, and personal productivity. The common thread is small, practical products that make an ordinary task easier.
We operate two fully staffed warehouses in the central United States, near the intersection of Interstates 80 and 39. Most stock orders ship within 48 hours, and most continental US shipments arrive within four working days.
The inventor
The Body Shelf was invented by Jerry Phlippeau, company President and Founder. He has spent more than two decades bringing consumer products to market, including through QVC and HSN, and works with other inventors to help get their ideas made.
The Body Shelf came out of a straightforward observation: a great deal of safe-handling advice covers how to lift something, and almost none of it covers what happens next — the part where you are already holding the load and have to walk somewhere with it. That gap is the product.
What we will and will not say about it
This is worth being direct about, because our own older marketing got it wrong.
We used to say "50% less strain." That number came from a real evaluation, but it was a male-subject average, and "strain" is not what the study measured. Surface EMG measures electrical muscle activity. It is not a measure of load, strain, pain, effort or injury risk.
So we retired the slogan and published the dataset instead — every task, both loads, both sexes, and a full limitations section including the fact that the study was small, unblinded, not peer-reviewed, and reported no statistical significance. You can read all of it.
We will tell you that in that evaluation, surface EMG measured 36–60% lower back-muscle activity among male subjects carrying 25–50 lb loads. We will also tell you that the smallest figure in the whole dataset was 2.8%, on stairs with a handrail at 50 lb, and that if you carry one-handed you should expect much less from this product.
We will not tell you it prevents injuries, relieves pain, or replaces lifting technique. It does none of those things.
How we support it
Direct communication and satisfaction after the sale is the part of this business we care most about. Every Body Shelf carries a 30-day limited warranty with a 30-day money-back period. If it is not right for your work, send it back.
If you are outfitting a crew or a facility, talk to us — including about when a cart or a lift is the better answer.
